About Us

SchoolMe.college brings together current and former college admissions officers and counselors, all focused on empowering you to become the expert on your own college admissions process. If you are like most students across the country, you lack the recommended access to a school counselor to help you apply to college: The current national “Student-to-School-Counselor” ratio of 385:1 falls significantly above the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) recommended ratio of 250:1. In some states–like Arizona, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Minnesota–that ratio can exceed 500:1.

SchoolMe.college addresses these inequities by democratizing college admissions–sharing information and coaching you to think strategically so that you can make sound college admissions decisions for yourself, even if you have limited access to a school-based college counselor. You can also use our resources to prepare for meetings with your counselor and/or information sessions and interviews with college representatives. Going into these conversations with a list of informed questions will strengthen your footing as you move forward in this process.

We began as an idea, at the height of the pandemic. Eva Ostrum, a former Yale admissions officer, high school principal, and current independent college counselor decided to take advantage of the pivot that students had to make to Zoom and other tech tools. These same tech tools could help students navigate the college process. Eva enlisted the input and help of colleagues with decades of admissions experience behind them to put together these resources, although any shortcomings are her responsibility alone. This project has been a labor of love. We hope you find it useful!
